Freestanding Modern Acrylic Bathtub Shapes And Size Considerations
The fun thing about modern bathtubs, especially the acrylic ones is that they can be found in so many shapes and sizes. Bu there in lies the problem. Too many choices does not help the decision making process. Sometimes, following the Apple way of doing things is the better option. One design, one software, fewer problems. But then again, phones and bathtubs are two totally different things.
Now that I've got my little rant out of the way, lets look at what we should consider when talking about freestanding modern acrylic bathtub shapes and sizes.
It would be a dream if we all has spacious bathrooms like the ones we often see lifestyle and decor magazines. But in reality, most of us have bathrooms a third a quarter of that size. That means we have to be really careful when choosing a bathtub.
If you've been to sites like www.theinteriorgallery.com, you would have noticed that modern acrylic bathtubs come so many beautiful shapes and many different sizes too.
Bathtub lengths range from 51 inches to 73 inches but most are in the 60 plus inch range. It's best that you measure your space carefully before making a purchase to avoid any installation problems later. Also, different bathtubs have have different irrigation specifications. Location of drainage holes maybe different from your existing tub and therefore, you may need to make some piping adjustments to your bathroom.
In addition, some bathtubs may come with pre-drilled holes for faucets and handles while others may require a standalone faucet set.
I've seen some interesting looking acrylic bathtubs. Some are translucent and come with LED lights which can change colors. Some come in odd shapes that will only look good in a spacious bathroom far away from walls.
Never decide on a bathtub shape just because it is easy on the eyes. Take into account what it would look like in your bathroom. Since most bathtubs are located right next to a wall, you might want to have a pretty good idea what your future bathtub would look like sitting right there.
Most bathtubs are longish but there are some which are round or square. Sometimes, because of space constraints, these odd shapes, which are usually small in size - circa 51 inches in diameter or 57 inches across - would be a good option. But some may find them impractical. I say go for what suits you best.

Having Modern Bathtubs Is A Luxury In Some Cities Around The World

Dazio II Luxury Solid Surface Modern Bathtub |
We take many things for granted. Until you travel the world, you do not really know how good you have it. Let's take our common everyday modern bathtubs as an example. In homes and hotels in the US, you can find bathtubs in all sorts of shapes, colors and made out of a variety of materials.
There are even different types of tubs. Some are freestanding, some are drop-ins and some are undermounts, to name a few. Consumers are spoiled for choice over here.
But a trip to a couple of countries in Asia a few years back was an eye opener. A tiny apartment, if you can call it that, can be as small as 1.5 square meters or 16 square feet in Tokyo. I doubt you could be able to fit a 3-wall alcove tub-shower in them.
If you noticed the bathroom in the video above, they managed to fit a small bathtub in there. The whole apartment has got to be around 200 square feet. 20 feet x 10 feet, I estimate.
In Honk Kong, apartments can be as small as the 40 square feet. That's slightly larger than a king sized bed and can amazingly fit a family of 3. That's the price of living in an ultra dense and fast paced city.
And it's not just cities in Asia that have tiny apartments. In September 2012, a 10ft 4in by 8ft 4in apartment with a view of Harrods was placed on sale for £90,000 in London. Mind you, even a snooker table is larger. No news on how much it was finally sold for but at last check, bids had topped £120,000.
There is just now way that you can fit a modern luxury tub like the Dazio II Luxury Solid Surface Modern Bathtub (see top of the page) into those tiny apartments, seeing as the tub alone is about 6 feet in length.
For those who travel from those cities and have a chance to sample our seemingly generous sized accommodation here, a modern bathtub like that would certainly be a luxury.
